Provenance: Major Memphis Art Collection, Acquired Directly From the Artist.Dorothy Sturm (American, 1910-1988).After training as an illustrator, Dorothy Sturm became part the first generation of Abstract Expressionists, showing with Betty Parsons Gallery from 1952 until 1978. Sturm taught art at the Memphis Academy of Art between 1938 and the late 1970s, and also assisted in establishing a collection of contemporary art at the Memphis Brooks Museum.
