Description
Newcomb College Copper Mailbox and Doorbell Plate, ca. 1915, attributed to Alice Leigh Moise, the mailbox with hand-wrought copper sheeting with cut-out decoration centering a roundel monogrammed "L", h. 11-5/8", w. 9-1/4", the doorbell plate cut in the iconic form of a live-oak tree and faintly monogrammed "W E W", h. 5", w. 3-7/8". Provenance: Descended in the family of the artist's friend.
Condition
Both are in overall good condition. The mailbox has a small dent to the upper right rounded corner and some light scattered surface scratches, accretions and oxidation - which are to be expected with age, medium and outdoor use. The doorbell plate has some light accretions (paint residue) to its reverse, probably from where it was removed from a painted door frame.
