Pair of George III Chinese Chippendale Games Tables, fourth quarter 18th century, each with a rectangular top with a floral-carved edge, opening to a larger leather inset gaming surface, above a blind fret-carved frieze, raised on square legs, h. 29", w. 33-1/2", d. 16-1/2".

Made of dense, heavy mahogany. Each with tight shrinkage cracks to tops; one example with a crack to left front corner and some minor fill repair and small triangular loss to back left edge of table. Stationary top has a ghost of the shrinkage top underneath gilt-stamped leather. One corner bracket with some loss; corner brackets possible restorations. Repair to back of one leg showing back of apron. One replaced glue block; others appear original. The second example with tight shrinkage cracks to top, with some filler repair and a warped right rear leg. The warped leg is cracked and repaired at the skirt. Glue blocks appear original. The four corner brackets appear to be three different generations, two possibly original. Both tables are sturdy, with 20th-century lacquer finishes, and some scattered minor surface scratches. A chalk script signature on bottom appears to be "Cremin", a name found in County Kerry and County Cork, Ireland.
