Base height is 15" with three 10" arm extensions to make a total of 45" hanging height.Born in Karlskrona, Sweden. He studied at The Stockholm School of Art, Craft and Design 1948-53 as well as graphics studies under Harald Sallberg 1951-52. He evolved into a Painter, Sculptor, Graphic Artist and Designer. Between 1953 through 1973 he collaborated with Boda Glasswork where he transferred his characteristic and expressive artistic style from painting and sculpturing into the material of glass. The result is said to have revolutionized the art of Swedish glass. Glass for everyday use Erik Höglund made arty with effects that let reflections of light emerge inside the glass material as well as on its surface. Commodities of wrought iron or glass was no longer to look identically as if mass produced but full of rare differences. An important component of his artistic style in any of the materials he worked with was attempts to give products a more expressive and vivid look thus always challenged and stimulated by the natural sophisticated appearance of glass. It is in this sense he ought to be understood when mentioned as a “glass artist”. During his 50 years as an active artist he also created many, approximately 150, commissioned public works in Sweden and abroad in a variety of materials such as oil and mural paintings sculptures in bronze, wrought iron, terracotta, natural stone etc. When he ended his collaboration with Boda he took a brief break from working with glass but returned to the medium in the late 70’s. Cooperation with Pukeberg Glasswork was initiated in 1979 followed by Transjöhyttan Glasswork, Åhus and Vrigstad Glasswork. He gave lectures, instructed and also made his own art glass at the Pilchuck Glass School (USA). This as well as other lectures and shows in The United States during the late 70’s often mentioned as the kick off of the Studio Glass movements in the USA of today as Höglund inspired and encourage designers to work with their own creativeness and not just with anonymous industrial design as an ideal. In the late 80’s Erik begun collaboration with talented glassblowers at Studioglas Stömbergshyttan. Once again he renewed the art of glass. But this time the skilled artist combined zestful colours and forms never seen before in Swedish glass.
