American Tonalist 19th Century Oil Landscape Painting

Item Details

Description

This oil on canvas painting from the late 1800's has a strong composition and an almost monochromatic palette. It is quite striking, even from a distance. The painting size is 10"x14" and the new gold-metal leafed frame measures approx. 12" x 16". The painting is unsigned. When we acquired this painting it was covered with a dark layer of nicotine and grime from years of storage, and had a small rip in the canvas. (See the "Before" photo.) The painting is now in great shape. It has been lined, retouched and coated with non-yellowing varnish. It is in a new frame which is in good condition except for a scrape on one side, which has been touched-up. (See photo) All work was performed in our conservation studio.
