Description
Ancient Near East, the Levant, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. This is a deeply-carved, tapering stone vessel with a rounded base and flattened side walls. It has two protrusions, one on each shoulder, drilled with holes for attachment. What use would a vessel like this have had in the ancient Near East? It was probably made to hold precious liquids, like cosmetics or olive oil, and buried with its owner to hold libations. The stone is pretty, with an almost translucent quality in places. Size: 2.45" L x 3" W x 3.4" H (6.2 cm x 7.6 cm x 8.6 cm)
