Description
Northwestern Europe, Viking, 9th to 11th century CE. Gorgeous solid silver neck ornament made by a fine Viking silversmith. Heavy square length of silver which tapers to rounded wire at each end, the majority of the length twisted and wire ends wrapped around the terminus to create an open loop at each end for securing with cord. A large example probably for a smaller man or larger woman. Size: 6.25" W x 5.5" H (15.9 cm x 14 cm). Weighs 3.1 ounces (88 grams).
