Description
REVOLUTIONARY WAR HALBERD (19TH CENTURY REPLICA)
Replica of an American Revolutionary War-era halberd, 21 1/2" head, 93 1/4" overall, likely manufactured during the nineteenth century. The weapon is topped by a 13 1/2" cast-iron spike with a square profile, beneath which are a broad axe head and a large beak. The head as a whole is attached to the shaft by two iron straps, which are secured by flathead screws. The bottom of the shaft ends abruptly and appears to have been sawn off, unlike period examples with would have been capped by a conical iron foot. The head of the weapon bears a dark brownish-black patina, dissimilar to other period Colonial-era blacksmith-made examples we have examined. Bears expected age wear, else very good.
