A Colima Dog Wearing Sea Turtle Shell
c. 200 BC - 200 AD

The dog shows its four legs and head extending from underneath a high domed turtle shell, with a tall red spout extending upward at back. The dog looks downward, in keeping with bearing such a cumbersome shell, and is stone polished to a deep smooth brown with fire clouding, while the shell is painted red with black delineations of shell design.
Such images are effigies of real life and this would depict an armored dog wearing a large shell for protection and trained for battle.
