Description
Magnificent World War I POW Bone Carving by a Member of the Royal Scots Regt. with Accompanying Regimental Cap Badge. The carving is executed on a 4 1/2" beef shank bone and of incredible quality. On the front there is depicted the Royal Scots regimental insignia in the center, along with "Langinsalza 1916 - 1917" and "C. Scott Sergeant of the Lothian Regiment." The back of the piece is beautifully carved with the twenty seven battle honors of the Royal Scots dating back to the War of 1812. All carving in very deep relief and very crisp. Langinsalza was an Allied POW camp in Germany, opened in 1914 and at its peak held 10,000 prisoners, one of which was obviously Sergeant Scott. Really as impressive a piece of POW art as we've ever seen, in about perfect condition with wonderful mellow patina, totally untouched. The accompanying period cap badge is excellent. A great and absolutely unique World War I artifact.
