42-1/4 inches high x 12-1/2 inches wide (107.3 x 31.8 cm)
Mai masks appear at male initiation ceremonies. They represent the four original ancestors, two male and two female, and dance in pairs. Masks are attached to bark and fiber superstructures worn over the dancer's upper body. Male masks, such as the present example, are elongated, while female masks are shorter and rounder.
