Gouache on Verve fitted-box cover, untitled scene with multiple figures, attributed* to Marc Chagall (1887-1985). Inscribed "Pour Louis Recor en souvenir", signed, and dated 1955, the box having been created for an earlier Verve publication and later painted as a souvenir for Moinseur Recor. 14 1/4 x 10 3/4 inches. Very good condition. Can be removed from frame for post-auction shipping if requested.

Provenance: Ex-collection Louis Recor, Paris, for whom the artist created the work circa 1955. Later acquired from the latter's estate by Andre Mavon (Saint-Honore, Paris). Acquired circa 1965-70 by the consignor's father, a West Coast collector who was a long time friend and client of Mavon's. Thence by descent to his heirs.
