S-024 American flag carried throughout the European Campaigns of WWII by Charles E. Alshouse, a member of the MP Platoon of the 677th Glider Field Artillery Battalion. According to a family member, Alshouse originally trained with the 602nd Artillery Regiment, was assigned to the 745th Infantry and reassigned to the 677th Battalion. According to his family the 48-star American flag with the original top half of the wood staff was carried on his jeep. Alshouse took part in the actions from Normandy through the closing days of WWII. One of his post cards shows him to be in Zwiesel, Czechoslovakia on 9 May 1945. The flag measures 46" x 70" and has some tears and is soiled showing the rigors of wartime field use. With the original cord which attaches the flag to the staff. Lightly rusted metal lower sleeve. A historical flag which showed the victorious path of the American Army. (2) Post card of a dog urinating in a glass mug - caption reads "BOTTOMS UP FOR HERR HITLER". (3) Photo post card of the "Ehrenmal Unter den Linden" in Berlin; photo card of the "Volkbank Zwiesel". Dated "May 9th 1945" with "Here is the building we were staying in when the war ended - Chas". (4) Photo card of civilians walking along a war damaged street in Zwiesel. (5) U.S.R.R.A. "COURTESY PASS CARD" for October 30 through November 6, 1945. Alshouse was quartered in Hotel Ruhl on the Riviera. (6) Veterans Administration post card indicating Alshouse applying for "EDUCATION FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING". (7) German Army EM breast eagle - was removed from a tunic. (8) WHW Contributors oval glass portrait of the "Fuhrer" with "ADOLF HITLER". II
