Description
oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, presented in an antique frame with the composition ornament removed for a shabby chic appearance.
DOA 32 x 46 in.
No Grand Tour was complete without a visit to the Campagna, which was the most painted landscape in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries. This painting owes much to the influence of Claude Lorraine in the dramatic use of bright light in the background and "lyrical" shadows in the foreground.
