Marston Moor was the most famous battle of the First English Civil War. The Parliamentarians won a decisive victory over the Royalists, who were forced to nearly abandon their fighting in the North. Cavalry commanded by Oliver Cromwell, then a Lieutenant General, played a major role in the victory by breaking the formations of the Royalist forces. At the time, Cromwell wielded far less political influence than he would in later years, when he achieved nearly dictatorial power. Pagani Piscatoris was a pen name for Payne Fisher.
