++ Dura Cast Type. Best for Hot Stamping. [Label printed on front of original box.] Franklin Manufacturing, Norwood, Mass. (nd). 80 pieces only: Issued with 3 of each letter. 20 letters have all 3 pieces and 6 have 2 pieces only. 5 periods but no other punctuation. Includes “JR,” “SR,” and Mc.” ++ [Bookbinding type] Metropolis Bold. NY: Continental Typefounders Association, (nd). Probably a complete lowercase (fills the box), curiously issued without the lowercase letter “l” (which would presumably be found in the uppercase). Also includes 2 periods, 3 commas, single quotation marks, exclamation point, dollar sign, parentheses, and spacers. ++ Over 90 pieces of lowercase Roman type (small point size). Every letter is represented, but no figures or symbols. ++ Over 40 pieces of punctuation from a slightly larger font. Several of: $ & : - ++ Over 65 pieces from a calligraphic font. Every letter is represented (uppercase only), plus a few periods, commas, and question mark. ++ Over 70 pieces of type from at least 3 fonts (1 black letter, 2 Roman). ++ Plastic tub of line spacers (for composing printing type). Exterior: 7 x 10 ½ x 1 ½ in. Adhesion (mostly or entirely severable). Because of storage, adjacent spacers have adhesion (mostly or entirely severable). ++ Wood and cardboard typecase. Accommodates 48 sorts. Pencil numbers indicate that it had been used in alphabetical order (A-Z). In ink along 1 side: “24 pt Condensed Cheltenham.” [1900s.] Dust soiling. ++ Wood and metal device.
