Description

Two Bilston or Battersea England enameled "motto" patch boxes, both late18th century, the rectangular box with motto "Make Virtue still Thy Constant guard and Heaven will grant a sure Reward" ; the oval box with motto "A Sound Conscience Is a Wall of Brass" (with both boxes the 'f' being used as an 's' prior to the 19th century). Neither box with any manufacturer marks. Approximate height of rectangular box .75", width 1.5", depth 1.25". Approximate height of oval box .62", width 1.75", depth 1.25".
