Second half 19th century, 46 x 53 cm, North West Persia, Azerbaijan
This Shahsavan bag face woven in the sumakh technique used to belong to a khorjin. A box-shaped design with stepped corners takes up the white field. The equally white-ground main border contains diamonds filled with stars, and both minor borders show the blossoms which are typical of Khamseh Shahsavan weavings. A narrow design stripe of small diamonds has been added all around. – Minimally reduced upper and lower finishes, otherwise in good condition.
