Description
West Africa, Burkina Faso, Mossi people, early 20th century CE. A tall statue with a dark, smooth wooden surface. The statue is of a woman with some facial carvings that look like tattoos or scarification. Although the Mossi are known for wooden masks, they also created statues like this one. Comes with custom stand. Size: 6.25" W x 21.5" H (15.9 cm x 54.6 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
