Condition
Very rare original edition. Important document that certifies the autonomy of Venice from the Church of Rome. This proclamation regards the taxation of church property, the clauses of which are redefined: it also establishes that it should be made a new census of the property of the clergy since the old Catastico is unreliable. The Judiciary of "superintendents to Tithes of the Clergy" was created in 1516 with the purpose of exercising a direct financial and moral state control on the Clergy. This state interference in the local structure of the Church over the centuries was the main cause of friction between the Papacy and Venice. Nice copy.
