Condition
Rare original edition. The Paduan writer, Napoleon's admirer, enhances democracy and defends the Cisalpine Republic. Melchiorre Cesarotti, 1730-1808, professor of Greek and Hebrew at the University of Padua in 1768; supporter of the Enlightenment ideals, with the French invasion in 1796 wrote in support of their cause. He received a pension and was knighted by Napoleon, from whom he was sent as ambassador. The lit Patriotism is a work in which he tries to reconcile the new ideas brought by the "century of the philosophers" and the desire for the social peace.Nice specimen, uncut.
