A VERY FINE SILVER GILT & GEM SET CROSIER OF THE BISHOP OF LIMOGES, FRANCE, TRIOULLIER FRERES, PARIS, CIRCA 1888. Enclosed within the volute of the crosier, a church edifice displaying multiple tombs and at the base of the structure rendered in champlevé enamel, a dedicatory inscription DON DE LA PAROISSE DE LONGPRÉ-LES-CORPS-SAINTS PARISH – GIVEN BY THE PARISH OF LONGPRÉ-LES-CORPS SAINTS (the home parish of Bishop Renouard). The hexagonal volute profusely chased overall with leaf forms on a stippled ground, embellished with a multitude of various size cabochons and decorated with crockets along its spine. At the base of the volute a small compressed hexagonal node above which stands a finely sculpted angel holding a shield with enameled cross bearing the Chi-Rho symbol, finely modeled, of good anatomy and proportions and with cascading hair, deep folds and finely chased feathering. Further down still, a larger and more ornate knop with flowerhead lugs set with cabochons above a chased shaft also embellished overall with cabochons. The four part staff with evenly spaced discs with engraved bands above and below. With French silver marks (Minerva) and stamped with maker's mark of Trioullier Freres, Paris. Together with felt lined custom fitted wood case, the interior of hinged lid with maker's label and the exterior with engraved plaque to MGR. RENOUARD. Overall height when assembled 75.5 inches (192 cm) Total weight 65.83troy ounces.

Firmin-Leon Joseph Renouard was born on February 12, 1831 in Longpré-les-Corps-Saints. He was ordained to the priesthood on September 23, 1854 and was ordained Bishop of Limoges, France on July 25, 1888. He died in Limoges on November 30, 1913 at the age of 82.
