A Russian Icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with Gilt Silver, Filigree, and Gem-Set Oklad Kuzma Konov, Moscow, 1908-1917 14 x 12 x 2-7/8 inches (35.6 x 30.5 x 7.3 cm) (overall) PROVENANCE: Ruth S. Nelkin noted that this icon was acquired privately for $1400. Kuzma Konov is noted for his early 20th century works in the Russian Stil Moderne produced for members of the Russian Imperial Family, and as a supplier to Olovyanishnikov Brothers, who were the main proponents of this rare ecclesiastical style. The frame of the icon follows the form of many of his works, most notably another icon depicting St. Serge of Radonezh and St. Elizabeth (Sold Sotheby's, London, Russian Works of Art, November 30, 2021, lot 637).
