Description
B&W, 1960. Bill Mazeroski's Walk-Off Home Run in the 1960 World Series, played between the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates. This photograph captures the iconic moment when Bill Mazeroski hit a home run at the bottom of the ninth, ending the game and winning the series for the Pirates. This was truly a moment of baseball history: it was the first-ever game-ending home run that also ended a World Series. Thanks to Mazeroski's home run, the Pirates defeated the Yankees 10-9 in Game 7 on October 13, 1960.
Signed and inscribed on image in ink to Neil Leifer by Bill Mazeroski, "To Neil, Best always, Bill Mazeroski." Signed in ink by Neil Leifer.
Photograph measures 11 x 14in. Presented in a handsome frame, matted with Leifer's credentials for the event. Frame measures 21 1/2 x 23 1/8in.
Includes five press passes:
1) Grey. Enter at Press Gate. No. 1082. World Series, Forbes Field, Pittsburgh PA. Working Press, Radio and Television."Roof and Roving." Good for admission at press gate on game. 5.5 x 1 7/8in.
2) Pittsburgh Base Ball Club World Series 1960 840 WSH W signed by Neil Leifer. 2 1/2 x 3 3/4in.
3) Three passes. World Series Forbes Field No. 222 CLUB HOUSE. No. 176 ROVING. No. 140 FIELD. All 3 1/2 x 3 1/2in.
This framed work has been professionally framed by Mr. Leifer's preferred framer. The frame is handsome, created in a simple, modern design much preferred by museums. The woods is a light, natural shade; the glazing is a UV plexiglass of the highest quality; the backing board is generally a sheet of foam core. The photographs in this auction have been examined by an expert, whose opinions pertaining to the age of the prints, the printing process, and the type of paper used, are included in the description of each photograph.
