Description
This 1960's era Steiff display Basset Hound is sitting, unjointed and made from tan mohair that has been realistically airbrushed to give him great shading and texture. He is solidly and heavily stuffed with excelsior. His impressive head is detailed with huge, floppy ears; hand painted, golfball sized eyes and an oversized vertically stitched nose that is about 3" x 2". He has a distinctly quizzical expression to him! Basset has hand stitched claws on his paws and a soft fabric folds around his mouth that give a softness to his lower jaw. He retains his raised script button and traces of his yellow tag as his Steiff IDs. Size: About 60 cm tall. Condition: As noted. A most eye catching display piece. Dog has nice coloring; this pattern often has terrible fading as it was frequently used in window displays featuring Hush Puppy brand shoes, but not in this case. With a small tear in the mohair at the top of one foot near the ankle, a few loose nose stitches and light surface dust. In good to very good condition overall. Described by Rebekah Kaufman. 23 -1/2" T.
