Manner of Niccolò Roccatagliata (1593-1636), a Venetian bronze model of a putto, 17th century, portrayed nude and standing, his arms held out to sinister, his weight on his left leg, the right leg a little behind, on a waisted circular base, later mounted on to a cylindrical marmo nero Belgio plinth with square base, the bronze 26cm high, the height overall45.5cm Born in Genoa Niccolò or Nicola Roccatagliata is mainly remembered for his work in the church of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice including bronze statuettes of St George and St Stephen, as well as twenty-eight sconces in the form of putti, and two large candelabra. In 1633, he completed a highly emotive relief depicting an Allegory of the Redemption for the church of San Moisè in Venice
