(American, 1915-2001), The Last Supper, inscribed on bottom in black "B. Ponder 94", thirteen carved wood figures, paint, fabric, 30-3/4 in. long,. Notes: Born in Lester, Arkansas, Braxton Ponder was in the grocery business until his retirement in 1986, after which he took up wood carving. A self-taught artist living in Alabama, he used a pocket knife to carve animals, religious figures, and Noah’s Arks, which he painted. For more information about Ponder, see "Outsider Art of the South" (1999) by Kathy Moses and "20th Century American Folk, Self Taught and Outsider Art" (1993) by Betty-Carol Sellen..
