Description
English Carved Inlaid Walnut Sarcophagus Form Tea Caddy, c. 1830, the interior with a silk lined lid over two formerly foil lined tea boxes, flanking a fitted compartment for a mixing bowl, the whole on ebonized disc feet, with key, H.- 8 in., W.- 12 1/2 in., D.- 6 3/8 in. Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.
Condition
Condition consistent with age. Key present. Scattered short hairline cracks throughout veneer, especially in the front bottom edge. An approximate 1/8 inch gap between lid and base on back edge. Light scuffs on the left side. Tears in the paper lining on the middle compartment. Several pea-size dents on interior lids. A ½ inch scratch near the back left edge. A classic piece.
