Antique glass beadwork on dark brown short nap velvet stylistically of the Iroquois from the pre floral period, likely prior to 1850. The color and style of the decorative element more closely resemble to organic curves and lines of pre colonial artistic work of the Iroquois. Stiff natural colored muslin interior with two interior pockets of calling card size, 2 1/2 in x 4 in . Between the velvet and muslin layers is a stiff natural paper to support the densely applied geometric ornamentation on the exterior. These " curiosities were highly prized by victorian era ladies as examples of cultured travel and prestige when used to keep their calling cards for social occasions.Condition is well preserved for a 19th century organic item. wear to velvet nap and breaks in fabric at trifold points.
