Description
Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. This is a redware pottery oil lamp, mold-made, with a stamped design. A short handled and small spouted example, with a low-relief depiction of Leda and the Swan on the discus and a clear planta pedis stamped on the base. One of the most ubiquitous, mass-produced Roman items, these lamps always remind me of the common humanity with have with the past, including a shared desire to light up the darkness of the night to continue our work. Size: 3.7" L x 2.65" W x 1.85" H (9.4 cm x 6.7 cm x 4.7 cm)
