Jules Rene Herve (French (active United States), 1887-1981), "Les Femmes Vêtues de Noir (Women Dressed in Black)", oil on panel, signed to lower right. Figural painting depicting a French village scene with small cottages overgrown with verdant vines, with women dressed in black congregating on an unpaved path. With gallery sheet to verso "Galerie P. Henaut". Framed approximately 12.25" x 14". Sight approximately 6" x 8.25".
Condition
No sings of craquelure to surface. Some slightframe rubbing to lower right, near signature; not distracting. Indications of previous restoration (label to verso: "DeVant Crissey Conservator of Oil Paintings August 1998"). Under black light examination no indication of in-painting or loss.
