Description
Central Asia, Kushan Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd centuries CE. An extremely fine example of a solid gold stater, inspired by the soldiers of Alexander the Great introducing the stater into the Gandhara region. The design shows a standing figure in a sinuous pose. The Kushan Empire, covering modern day Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northwestern India, controlled part of the Silk Road between China and the Mediterranean. This crossroads area led to the creation of a dynamic fusion culture. Size: 0.85" W (2.2 cm)
