Description
French Restauration Bronze Dore et Patine Mantel Clock, second quarter 19th century, decorated with a Marly horse, after Guillaume Coustou (French, 1677-1746), the works marked "Pons", for Pierre-Honore-Cesar Pons (French, 1773-1851), the silvered dial framed with lotus leaves and pierced anthemia, with a silk string suspension movement, h. 19", w. 9-1/2", d. 5-1/4".
Condition
The clock retains nearly all of its gilt-bronze lower surface and patinated bronze on the upper portion. The exterior surface has only very minor scattered imperfections. At first glance, the figure appears to be missing the reins on the horses, but images of the originals at the Louvre reveal those reins are missing too. A small round aperture of the back left corner of the top of the gilded clock indicates some missing element.
