Description
George III Mahogany Sideboard, fourth quarter 18th century, the bowed and shaped superstructure fitted with two tambour compartments, above the conforming banded top, over a case fitted with a central cutlery drawer opening to a compartmented Pacific cloth-lined interior, with a removable Pacific cloth topper flanked to one side by a deep drawer faced as two and to the other side by two graduated drawers, raised on tapering square legs, the whole accented with floral, foliate and scrolling inlaid patterns, h. 44", w. 71", d. 29-1/2". Provenance: The Estate of Elaine Smith Frost White, Houston, Texas and East Hampton, New York.
Condition
In good condition, with minor scattered losses and rubbing to the surface. Structurally sound, with typical shrinkage to the crossbanding. The rail above the center drawer has lost its veneer. There are minor shrinkage cracks to the top and sides. The action to the tambour doors on the upper deck works, but haltingly.
