Description
Edwardian Sterling Silver Punch Bowl, hallmarked Birmingham, 1904-1905, by William Aitken, of hemispherical form, embossed with a wide fluted band centering oval scroll-framed cartouches on an imbricate ground, with a molded "Monteith" rim, stirrup-ringed lion's masque handles and raised on a gadrooned, domed foot ring, h. 9-1/4", dia. 12-1/4", 83.39 t. oz.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good. Light surface wear - scuffs, bumps and dings - consistent with age, but otherwise no issues noted; no breaks or repairs noted. Scattered tarnish in the recesses, removable with a proper polishing. Hallmarked (on the body, near one handle) with: 1) the Birmingham anchor; 2) the sterling lion passant; 3) the date letter "e" for 1904-1905; and 4) the "W.A" in an oval maker's mark of William Aitken. Note correct height: 9-1/4" (NOT 19-1/4" as stated in the print catalogue).
