A Matthew Boulton George III Old Sheffield-Plate Footed Tray Engraved with the Arms of the Marquess of Carmarthen, Birmingham, England, circa 1785
Marks: (two suns)
2-5/8 h x 27 w x 18 d inches (6.7 x 68.6 x 45.7 cm) (including handles)
The tray having gadrooned rim interspersed with shell motif, conforming scrolled handles, plain ground having central engraved armorial crest with motto PAX IN BELLO, raised on figured paw feet. The arms are those of the Marquess of Carmarthen, the eldest son, or heir apparent, of the Duke of Leeds.

Engraved crest is of later vintage and may not be original to tray, very shallow pin dint; minor rubbing and plate loss to undersides of handles, border, and feet; with surface scratches commensurate with age, polishing, and use.
