Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, probably Huastec people, ca. 900 to 1500 CE. A seated pottery figure of a man with legs crossed and hands on his legs. The face is sensitive and naturalistic, while the body has less realistic detail (notably the hands) but clear sexual characteristics. The man wears a necklace of some kind and remains of red pigment suggest that he is also wearing a skullcap-like headpiece that begins at his eyebrows. The style is reminiscent of Huastec, but the cultural milieu at the time means that it may have been inspired by other cultures. Size: 6.4" W x 7.6" H (16.3 cm x 19.3 cm)
