Description
MASCAGNI PIETRO: (1863-1945) Italian Composer. A.M.Q.S., P Mascagni, one page, 8vo, Vienna, 16th September 1892. In bold black fountain pen ink the composer has penned two staves of music of two bars each, both with words beneath in Italian, which he identifies as being from his opera L'amico Fritz (1891). The first stave bears Suzel's lyrics Son pochi fiori and the second Fritz's lyrics Tutto tace eppur. The base of the page bears the rubber stamped name of the music publishers Carl Simon, indicating that the quotation most likely originally appeared in a printed libretto. Neatly mounted, otherwise VG
L'Amico Fritz is an opera in three acts and is probably the composers most famous work after Cavalleria rusticana. The 'Cherry Duet' between Suzel and Fritz in Act II is the best known piece in the opera.
