Description
Early 19th century American needlepoint sampler by Mary Allenby Woods, age 10. Stitched poem reads as follows: "Beauty and riches quickly glide away, Virtue alone eternally will stay, Fair as the rising star that gilds the morn, Virtue and honour lovely twins adorn, Virtue the brightest gem a maid can wear, Nor can the indies boast of one so fair, All jewels far below it's worth we find, Absent or dead still let a friend be dear, A sigh the absent claim the dead a tear." Depicts a landscape with trees and a large estate. Stitched inscription: "Mary Allenby Woods Sampler, Finished October the sixth, 1810. In the tenth year of her age." Framed under glass in gilt wood period frame. Art size measures approx. 23-1/8" H x 19-1/2" W + 3" mat & frame. Will not ship, we can refer local shippers.
