Item: Vintage Pinback Button, depiction of Polish American aviator, Stanislaw Hausner, with airplane

Date: ca. 1930

Size: 1.5 inch diameter

Stanislaw Hausner (1900-1935) was a Polish-American aviator who made several attempts to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo. After multiple failed attempts, his last try put him in the hospital. A couple years later, during a celebration for a Polish Marshall, he was invited to perform aerobatics over a church. While performing a loop, a wing detached, which landed and caused a fire. This made Hausner unable to land and the crash was fatal. He was awarded a posthumous Gold Cross of Merit.
