THREE FACE / DUNCAN NO. 400 (OMN) COVERED BISCUIT / CRACKER JAR, colorless and frosted, cylindrical ribbed form with a band of beads at base and below the rim, rayed base, ribbed cover with figural finial. Geo. Duncan & Sons, Pittsburgh, PA. 1878-1886. 9 1/4" HOA, 4 1/2" D rim, 4 3/4" D base.
Virtually undamaged with a single annealing check in the base, as made.
Literature: Innes - Pittsburgh Glass, p. 355, pl. 391, fig. 1, "Biscuit jar is very rare." Antiques - American Glass, p. 107, Ruth Webb Lee states, "I know of but one of these jars that has been found in recent years".
Provenance: The collection of William Bladon, Janesville, WI.
