A nice Chinese ink stone with carved wood box. In 'Literati' style the lid is inscribed and dated year 28 of Kang-His (1662-1722) = 1688. The slab is black layered hard stone with lengthy inscription in lovely calligraphy and large depression for mixing and grinding ink. An old and interesting piece! Stone; L: 8 7/8 in x 5 5/8 in (22.5 x 14.3 cm) and is 1 in (2.5cm) thick. Ex Los Angeles private collection.
