Description
A lovely Phoenician core-formed amphoriskos, c. 3rd - 2nd Century BC, in semi-translucent orange-brown glass, the body with vertical ribbing and small pedestal foot, tubular neck with wide, flattened rim and singe handle in the same color as the body. The sides are decorated with opaque white and turquoise glass in tight bands, the centermost combed into a zigzag pattern, a single white band winds all the way to the top of the foot. H: 2 7/8 in (7.3 cm). A beautiful piece with much eye appeal and flashes of colorful iridescence on the sides of the neck. Cf. Constable-Maxwell, p. 25, no. 19 for the type; Ex Harmer Rooke, NY, (Oct 1982), Lot 304.
