Description
A lovely Hellenistic core-formed alabastron, Eastern Mediterranean, c. 6th - 4th Century BC, in opaque brick red glass, the cylindrical body widening slightly to a rounded base, short neck and flattened and splayed rim, the shoulders with twin pierced ring handles. The body with opaque turquoise and yellow concentric bands, tightly placed and combed into a zigzag pattern starting below the handles, a single yellow band around the outer edge of the rim. H: 4 5/8 in (11.7 cm). A very nice piece of early glass with light deposits, custom lucite stand. Ex Alex G Malloy, Auction (March 1984) Lot 1248.
