Description
Rare Georgian Brass Travel/Carriage Clock W/Fusee (Chain Drive) Watch Movement Signed by Robert Fletcher of Chester - This piece is one of the earliest examples of a travel clock, made by famous watchmaker Robert Fletcher of Chester, England. The clock is made of brass, has an alarm feature, and the unique case design allows the side and bottom panels to slide open for access to the fusee movement. This piece is very unique, and is an exceedingly scarce forerunner to the carriage clock, which was made nearly 100 years later. This piece is one of the earliest examples known, and has a restored movement in working order. The clock is signed "R. Fletcher Chester" on the front of the piece. The clock comes with the key, which is extremely rare for pieces of this age, and also comes with the original beveled glass case with wooden base. The clock measures 5"H x 2.25"W x 1.5"D, and the beveled glass case measures 8"H x 5"W.
