Description
An early lantern made by the New England Glass Company for he Boston & Worcester Railroad. This road was a predecessor of the Boston & Albany and dates to a pre-1869 period. The lantern is a standard model but the base assembly has been replaced with a pinch pot assembly from a different lantern design. Some work will be needed to remove th2 base and I can lead you to the correct possible design for this frame. I did an article for the RCAI "Express" magazine in the 1990's. It still holds true today: http://tagtown.net/rcai/fixedg/fixed1.html (I probably have a bell in my "parts" bin).
The globe has applied flanges to the top and bottom. These help keep the globe plastered to the frame. The frame has some nice original copper colored "Japaning". It has a flat top with the bail going under the cap. Some go through the cap. The globe is nicely wheel cut B&W RR in block lettering. This is a nice lantern from the Ron Santurjian Estate.
