This extraordinary delightful exploration of color an dlight measures 22 5/8" x 28 " framed; 18" x 24" actual and is painted in oil on canvas. The work depicts sunset on a River and is signed lower left R W VanBoskerck. Robert Ward Van Boskerck (1855-1932) was elected to the National Academy of Design, New York City, as an Associate in 1897, and an Academician in 1907. He exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, and other major museums. An indefatigable portrayer of the American landscape in a regional impressionist manner informed by the Hudson River School, he produced a large body of memorable works. This example with its excellent, atmospheric depth, sensitivity to the landscape and frequent punctuations of surprise color, is typical of his best work.
