Description
GERMAN PORCELAIN REGIMENTAL BEER STEIN, hand-painted polychrome and gilt decoration, .5L size, depicting scenes of battle or training above and flanking portraits of officer's or royalty, with unit roster in two columns flanking the handle. Below the rim are the words "Kanonendonner ist unser Gruß", or "Cannon thunder is our greeting", with "0,5 L" mark, above original owner's name, "Reservist Knosp"; unit identification to the foot reads "1 Batt. 2 Bad. Feld. Art. Regt. Nr. 30. Rastatt. 1908-1910", for 1st Battalion, 2nd Baden/30th Field Artillery Regiment, above "Erinnerung an das Kaisermanover 1909" or "Remembering the King's maneuvers, 1909." With hinged pewter lid having figural cavalry soldier finial and figural thumbrest in the form of a crowned griffon, representative of the coat of arms of the Grand Duke of Baden, and domestic scene lithophane under base. Circa 1909. 12 1/4" HOA.
Virtually undamaged, with minor wear to gilt decoration, some minimal wear to enamel near base, and lid finial with minor compression/bending.
