Description
Continental, likely Italian, and Chinese, 19th century. A carved Venetian Baroque style shadowbox, with an elaborate carved wood and giltwood frame, having a foliated and scrolled broken pediment inset with a giltwood crown finial centered with crossed flowers and feathers, scrolled giltwood and foliated sides, the base flanked by flowering urns, with a foliated apron, and a shaped glass door with a carved and giltwood foliated laurel border, opening to reveal gilded Chinese architectural fragments. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 62", width 44.5", depth 4.5".
Condition
Wear commensurate with age and use. Frame with worming, some losses to polychrome and gilding, and some losses to wood. Interior panels not inspected out of frame, but appear clean, with some losses to gilding and wood. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
