Description
Italian, 18th century. A late Baroque period giltwood architectural fragment, hand carved with four putti amidst sweeping acanthine scrolls underneath a pedimental top with dot and dash molding. Unmarked. Approximate height 30", width 33", depth 40". Provenance: From the Estate of Mr. Herbert R. Matthews, Sr. and Mrs. Patricia Matthews of Atlanta, Georgia. Note: The original receipt of purchase from Michel Proust at Le Louvre des Antiquaires in Paris, France is included with this lot. It was most recently used as a console table, and if desired, a large black marble top is available with the lot.
Condition
Wear commensurate with age and use. Some expected losses and chips to gilt, gesso, and wood, with cracking to form overall. Some areas of repair, and some seam separation. Dents, scratches, and general wear. Newer screws to top, likely to stabilize or used to mount a top. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
